Blazon of arms

  • Arms: Per pale, 1st. Vert a castle triple-towered Argent each of the triple towers bearing a flagpole flying the flags of the United States of America, Puerto Rico and the cross of Burgundy respectively in base eight barrulets wavy Azure and Argent; 2nd. Per fess in chief Argent two bends Or fimbriated Gules a lion Sable overall, in base Gules a tower Or conjoined to dexter with a scaling ladder also Or debruised by an armoured knight half-way up.
  • Crest: On a wreath of the colours a Plume of three feathers Vert, Argent and Gules.
  • Symbolism: The triple towered castle over waves of water represents Morro Castle in Puerto Rico, a place near which Capt. Sánchez was born. The flags represent: in the centre Puerto Rico, the country where he was born; to dexter the United States of America, the country that he serves in the USAF; to sinister Spain, the country that discovered the island of Puerto Rico, represented by the cross of Burgundy which was the Spanish military flag from the 16th century up to 1843.
